Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) / Submission Wrestling Classes
(Markham and GTA locations)
What is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Submission Wrestling?
Imagine being able to neutralize, control and overcome an opponent 50
pounds heavier than you. This is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu! This is what you can learn uniquely
at Lin Martial Arts.
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (aka Gracie Jiu-Jitsu) is a highly-effective
yet easy to learn martial art.
You may have even seen it on TV shows like The Ultimate Fighter. It is
the premiere grappling art, involving throws, pinning and escaping techniques,
chokes, armlocks, and leglocks. Size, strength, or speed
are not pre-requisites to becoming proficient in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
It's techniques enable even smaller people to overcome larger, stronger
opponents.
Submission Wrestling is the equivalent of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu without
the traditional uniform (gi). BJJ serves as the base for our Submission Wrestling
System.
But at Lin Martial Arts, we go a step further and also incorporate the best
elements of Olympic-style wrestling (Freestyle and Greco-Roman), Judo, Sambo, and
other grappling arts into our system to ensure our style stays at the forefront
of effective grappling arts.
What are our classes like?
Our BJJ/Submission Wrestling classes are appropriate for men, women and teens (over 14 years old)
of all ages and fitness levels (no one is too old or too out of shape!).
Each class is a fun and enjoyable workout that will build
muscle tone, cardio, flexibility and coordination. You will get in great shape,
you will learn how to use your body to it's MAXIMUM potential, you'll
gain tremendous self-confidence, AND you will learn amazing self-defense/combat skills.
We serve everyone from the
fitness-minded person who is looking for a fun way to get or stay in shape while learning
an EFFECTIVE martial art, and the very serious athelete who is looking to compete
and win medals.
As seen on TV!
You may have seen Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in action on TV shows such
as SpikeTV's The Ultimate Fighter, or on pay-per-view events such as the
UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship). In the early days of these events,
martial artists from different styles (e.g. Boxing, Wrestling, Judo, Karate,
Kung Fu, etc) would compete against one another.
In these early competitions, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners showcased
to the world the power of their style by dominating all other
competitiors, who often-times were much larger and stronger.
Nowadays, fighters such as Matt Hughes, Georges St.Pierre, Royce Gracie, Diego Sanchez,
Tito Ortiz, Chuck Lidell, and Randy Couture (just to name a few)
are all examples of fighters with strong grappling and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu experience.
In fact, almost every professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter will have
some sort of grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or Submission Wrestling (aka no-gi Jiu-Jitsu)
training. It's record in the ring has been so convincing, that it has become a staple of many
modern law enforcement and military combat training programs around the world.
Why is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu ideal for
Self-Defense?
Police statistics show that over 85% of assaults end up in a grappling situation.
And Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is one of the most effective martial
arts on the planet for these scenarios. It gives you
the ability to turn once-vulnerable situations into situations where
you are in total control.
Our classes teach you how to:
- use leverage, balance, and body positioning to
overcome a larger, stronger opponent
- escape any pin or hold down
- avoid being tackled to the ground
- render an opponent unconscious no matter how big they are
- totally control and neutralize an opponent
- force an opponent to surrender (aka "tap out")
- and much, much more!
Any other Benefits?
